Ch. Korcula Midnight Star Bret D

(Ch. Fireman’s Freckled Friend x Ch. Korcula Midnight Serenade)

                  Born: June 27, 1985 -Died: February 9, 1999

Charley can to us when he was 10 months old.  He was known as “Sam” & had been living at Dr. John & Betty    Garvin’s house in Pataskla, OH.   Charlie & Lynn had Charley’s brother “Chip” and Charlie Garvin thought that “Sam”  needed his own home and of course needed some show training.  When I first saw him at the Central Ohio Kennel Club show I fell in love the moment I set eyes on him!!!  “Sam” came to live with my mom & I that very day!

Mom said she wanted to change his name to something different.  I asked Mom to decide on a new name and let me know when she had thought of one.  I came home from work a few days later and while eating dinner, Mom told me she had thought of a really good name.  What is it I said….she said “Charley”.  You could have knocked me over with a feather!   He came to that name immediately and became known from that point as Charley!   Charlie Garvin & I decided that since we would call him Charley, would we spell it differently that Charlies’ and also nickname him “Charley-dog”.

Charley won his first BOB from the classes over two specials & then went onto Best In Sweeps at the Dalmatian Club of Detroit Specialty & Winners dog at the Western Reserve Specialty.  Charley finished his championship that same year a few months later at the Chicagoland Dalmatian Specialty, by going Best in Sweeps & Winners Dog & Best of Winners.

Charley’s record included 8 Best in Shows, 17 Specialty Wins.   He won the Pedigree award 2 years and was the Number 1 dog for three years.  But Charley’s greatest gift to us was his children.  He produced 52 champions during his lifetime.  The list of Charley’s champions is a tribute to all of the lovely bitches that came to Charley.  We could not be prouder of the dogs we see in the ring today that have him in their pedigree!

Charley was one of those lifetime dogs!  During his lifetime he made many friends.  His dearest friends were Ann & Gary Lyon.  During his later years he stayed there when I was traveling to the shows.

Most of my current show dogs, including Ch. Bret D Sergeant Major (Charley dog Great Grandson) have made us proud.   Major’s Co-breeder and Owner had a Charley Daughter and when she died at age 14 . John Bachey decided that he wanted something from that line.  Major has become a MBIS & MBISS winner himself.

The future looks bright indeed……
